Position: Senior Nurse for Safeguarding

This post is Fixed term/Secondment until 31-03-2027 due to the needs of the service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic and rapidly growing team as a Senior Nurse for Safeguarding within the Corporate Safeguarding team, supporting the named Lead for Safeguarding to strengthen safeguarding practices across the organisation. The Corporate Safeguarding team is part of the Nursing and Quality division, which is based in the Nursing, Quality and Integrated Governance (NQIG) directorate.

The NQIG Directorate brings together three key divisions:
Nursing and Quality, Integrated Governance, and the National Safeguarding Service. Our shared mission is to enhance quality and capability across public health services in Wales. We do this by engaging with, enabling, and empowering those we work with and serve, helping to build a healthier future for all.

The Nursing and Quality Division plays a pivotal role in advancing the organisation's priorities in Quality Improvement and Innovation, Patient Safety, Service User Experience and Engagement, and the management of concerns through the Putting Things Right process. It also oversees key corporate functions, including Quality and Clinical Audit, Safeguarding, and Infection Prevention and Control.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge, skills and experience within safeguarding practice, including the importance of effective and collaborative working with internal stakeholders, multi-agency Partners and Designated Safeguarding Professionals.

The post holder will work alongside the Named Lead for Safeguarding to ensure that processes are in place to safeguard children and adults at risk from abuse, neglect and harm. Identifying, reporting and responding to concerns across directorates, divisions and service areas as required, using your knowledge across a wide range of practice and working environments is integral to this post.

You will provide clinical leadership, specialist advice and support on safeguarding issues to practitioners, managers and other staff with the ability to make judgements about highly complex situations that require analysis and interpretation.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring comprehensive and robust safeguarding arrangements are in place across Public Health Wales and will provide specialist advice relating to safeguarding, supervision and support to Public Health Wales employees and teams. This will include supporting practitioners in, making relevant referrals and attending multi-agency strategy meetings.

To participate in the planning, delivery and evaluation of a range of safeguarding training programmes and education initiatives to improve safeguarding practices.
