AboutThe Role
Apprenticeships at JN Bentley are hands‑on from day one. With a dedicated mentor, you’ll work with site professionals in the office and on site, learning civil engineering and quantity‑surveying skills. You’ll gain experience on live construction projects, taking each from the initial tender stage through completion and final account. You will work alongside an experienced Quantity Surveyor, learning to manage all project costs and coordinate with subcontractors.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Help manage the commercial side of construction projects and look for ways to minimise total costs while maintaining required standards and quality.
- Split time between working in the office and on site, preparing payments and cost reports and managing relationships with stakeholders.
- Work closely with the project team to identify and tackle challenges throughout a project.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and subcontractors.
- Involve in procurement, negotiation, valuation and ensure payments are made to subcontractors.
- Submit client Application For Payments (AFP’s) on a monthly basis.
- Attend project control meetings to understand and review progress.
- Run and review cost reports to ensure accurate forecasting for both internal stakeholders and the client.
- 5 GCSEs grades A–C (4–9); must include English and maths.
- 1–2 A Levels or equivalent (BTEC/T Level) in a relevant subject.
- A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the operational region.
- Ability to work professionally as part of a team.
- Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative, meet deadlines and manage pressure.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel to sites across the operational region.
- Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician Apprenticeship.
