Job Title: Registered Nurse II (260000Q7) – Department of Developmental Services

Overview

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks compassionate, enthusiastic and dedicated nursing professionals for our Registered Nurse II position at the Wrentham Developmental Center in Wrentham, MA. The RN II will provide nursing care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities residing at the center. In consultation with other health care professionals, the RN II will assess outcomes of care and use the nursing process to make continuing assessments of individuals’ total health care needs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional nursing care and oversight by assessing health care needs to prevent illness and promote health maintenance.
  • Dispense medications and perform treatments in compliance with medical provider orders, policies and procedures.
  • Collect health and status data for individuals.
  • Ensure information is documented, communicated, and readily accessible.
  • Identify acute problems and initiate intervention or referrals for needed medical services, confirming follow-up care is pursued.
  • Support nursing leadership and training for staff; advocate to ensure individuals receive appropriate health care treatment, health education, and other health-related services.
  • Serve as a first responder for behavioral or medical crisis situations.
  • Maintain individual records and files; perform data entry of medical information.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a current and active Massachusetts Registered Nursing (RN) license to practice as an RN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
  • Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of techniques used in handling and transporting patients.
  • Knowledge of first aid techniques.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and sterilization methods and procedures in a medical facility.
  • Knowledge of emergency medical procedures such as CPR.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely, express thoughts clearly, and develop ideas logically.
  • Ability to interact with people under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and in group situations.
  • Ability to understand, apply and explain laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines governing agency operations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records using the electronic medical record system and to develop proficiency over time.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful and emergency situations and to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to assemble information according to established procedures and to give written and oral instructions clearly.
Location, Schedule and Other Details

Location: Wrentham Developmental Center, Unit 2, United States-Massachusetts-Wrentham

Schedule: Full-time – 40 hours per week

Shift: 2nd Shift – 2:45 PM to 11:15 PM

Days Off: Every other weekend with alternating weeks

Flexibility required to meet program needs.

This position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in the DDS Emergency Plan. Staff may be required to report to work during Governor-declared states of emergency. Program operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; mandatory overtime may be required when circumstances dictate.

Salary: 86,385.78 –  yearly
