- Promotes the SEARHC Seven Standards of Excellence; implements safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients and residents with multisystem diseases or complications of treatment, using appropriate infection control measures; sets priorities for care based on acuity and/or patient preferences; anticipates potential problems; adapts to change; initiates, manages, and documents nursing procedures consistent with scientific principles and departmental policy; demonstrates knowledge of equipment use;
accurately administers age‑specific medications and therapeutics; carries out the medical and nursing care plan; coordinates resident care activities with physicians and other healthcare team members; initiates action to reduce, correct, or prevent immediate, ongoing, or potential risks to the resident; facilitates healing by providing individualized, goal‑oriented nursing care; seeks resources beyond scope; explains tests, procedures, and disease processes; follows through on nursing care plans by teaching and demonstrating essential skills;
provides counseling; utilizes other healthcare professionals for psychosocial problems; takes steps to decrease stress and increase coping mechanisms; evaluates resident progress or lack thereof; directs new goal setting and implements revised care plans; documents responses; closes out care plans at discharge or aftercare; ensures confidentiality of resident information. - Accomplishes nursing assessments through interviewing, observation, and the nursing process; obtains, interprets and applies age‑related patient information; completes thorough Nursing Admission Database/initial resident assessment; documents assessment findings; identifies problems and nursing diagnoses; distinguishes normal and abnormal findings; utilizes resources to assess residents with new or uncommon conditions.
- Shall perform duties as assigned and ensure quality resident care regardless of routine or emergent situation.
- Imparts educational knowledge to enhance decision making; engages in evaluation of teaching effectiveness; organizes and participates in care conferences; identifies staff, resident, and family educational needs; develops or implements educational programs and learning aids; documents education accurately; participates in in‑services; completes mandatory training and competency checks; utilizes teaching opportunities with staff.
- Communicates with staff, residents, significant others, and the healthcare team in a supportive, constructive manner; gives feedback; assists in orientation of new staff; guides others in nursing interventions; follows policies; supports the nursing mission; assigns staff to productive tasks; provides input regarding policy changes; leads as Contact RN when necessary; accomplishes assigned resident care and support activities.
