Overview

Role: Health, Safety and Environment Specialist

Career Step Level: Step level 2

Location: Blyth, Worksop

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our fast-growing manufacturing and fulfilment operation at Butternut Box. As our Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist, you’ll support the HSE Manager in maintaining a safe, compliant, and people-focused environment across Rudie’s Kitchen and Aces Pantry. You’ll play an important hands-on role in day-to-day HSE activity - from completing checks and supporting audits to helping with training, investigations and documentation.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their HSE career who is keen to learn, grow and make a real impact.

Responsibilities
  • Full-time on-site Monday to Friday; standard office hours with regular on-site presence to support day-to-day operations and collaboration with teams.
  • Assist with the implementation and upkeep of the HSE management system, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Promote a strong Health, Safety & Environmental culture across both sites.
  • Conduct routine site inspections, daily/weekly checks, and first-level audits; escalate issues to the HSE Manager.
  • Assist with the investigation, recording and reporting of incidents, near misses and hazards, and help identify and implement improvements.
  • Support risk assessment activities by gathering information, drafting documentation, and ensuring actions are followed up.
  • Assist in the preparation of HSE reports, KPIs and data analysis to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring evidence, documentation and follow-up actions are well organised.
  • Support PPE management—checking stock levels, liaising with suppliers, and ensuring departments have what they need.
  • Provide general HSE guidance to squad members and help answer day-to-day queries.
  • Support First Aid and Fire Warden programme administration (training schedules, bookings, recordkeeping).
  • Work with People and Training teams to support delivery of mandatory HSE training.
  • Maintain high standards of site security by supporting processes and controls as directed by the HSE Manager.
  • Play an active role during site events, drills, safety weeks, induction programmes and engagement activities.
Requirements / About you
  • Experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, logistics or FMCG; food experience is a bonus but not essential.
  • Desire to progress in the HSE profession and grow capability through hands-on learning.
  • Familiar with basic HSE practices (e.g., incident reporting, risk assessments, audits) and eager to deepen technical knowledge.
  • Strong communicator—approachable, calm and able to engage with colleagues at all levels.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail; confident managing records and documentation.
  • Proactive problem-solver who is curious, practical and willing to roll up your sleeves.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and adaptable when priorities shift.
  • Confident using PC systems to produce reports, update logs and maintain documentation.
  • Holds or is working towards NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (support for development available).
  • Love dogs.
