Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Worcester Acute Adult SLT service due to promotion of the current postholder. You will be responsible for providing a high‑quality service to inpatients across Worcester Acute Hospitals, seeing a diverse range of patients, including occasional sessions at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch. The role supports CPD, peer supervision and an excellent preceptorship programme.

• Provide acute SLT service for patients with communication and swallowing difficulties, managing a designated caseload within agreed clinical parameters.
• Plan, prioritise and deliver evidence‑based, client‑centred treatment plans, including discharge planning and coordination with MDT.
• Offer specialist advice, teaching and training to MDT members on SLT management of stroke or other adult patients.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and contribute to service audit, clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in inclusion of research data, educational activities and supervision of students and volunteers.

• Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent, RCSLT registered and HCPC registered.
• Experience working with adults with communication difficulties, and awareness of acute swallowing difficulties.
• Knowledge of evidence‑based practice for adult communication and swallowing disorders, and familiarity with formal and informal assessment tools.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in email, Microsoft and Outlook.

• Excellent communication and relationship skills, including empathy and motivation of clients and carers.
• Strong organisational and team‑working abilities, able to work independently under pressure.
• Commitment to continuous professional development, including CPD, training delivery and supervision.
