We are seeking an experienced clinical nurse specialist in viral hepatitis to join the Infectious Diseases service in Worcestershire. This post comes at a particularly exciting time in the field of hepatitis, as NHS England has an ambition to reduce the levels of hepatitis B and hepatitis C transmission to improve public health outcomes. We have a well-developed and highly respected within the Trust with 4 s, a hepatologist, , HIV pharmacist and Hepatitis pharmacist, 3 HIV CNS and 2 health care assistants.
We have cross‑county clinics within the Acute Trust on 3 sites and foster close links with the community drug services and GPs. We run a very active in‑reach prison service. We run a monthly MDT and are closely linked via a regional network to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. We also work in the community to support Hepatitis C patients with excellent collaboration with the drug and alcohol team.

- Effectively manage a highly complex clinical caseload, prioritising needs and ensuring a quality service is provided.
- Act as an independent and supplementary prescriber within own area of expertise.
- Work as a member of the multi‑professional team at appropriate consultant clinics, providing specialist advice and support.
- Lead and facilitate nurse‑led clinics across acute, community and prison settings.
- Assess all new viral hepatitis patients and carry out fibroscan procedures in selected patients.
- Provide information regarding treatment and side effects, and teach patients injection techniques.
- Monitor treatment and side‑effect management, maintaining a support network for patients.
- Provide a phlebotomy service and analyse highly complex blood results to assess complications of viral hepatitis and how treatment is affecting patients.
- Act as the patient advocate, assess suitability for treatment and work with patients to achieve clinical goals.
- Liaise with other health care professionals in acute and community settings to ensure a seamless service.
- Provide comprehensive and accurate record‑keeping.
- First level registered nurse.
- Graduate in a health‑related degree.
- Venepuncture and cannulation course.
- Working toward a master’s degree.
- Independent and supplementary nurse prescribing course (or working toward).
- Desirable: counselling course.
- Desirable: course on viral hepatitis.
- Desirable: course on HIV.
- Experience at band 6 level.
- Experience working autonomously.
- Planning and delivery of teaching programmes.
- Desirable: research undertaken.
- Desirable: audits undertaken.
- Desirable: membership of relevant professional group.
- Flexibility with working hours.
- Enhanced disclosure clearance.
- Able to travel county‑wide / across sites.
- Clinical audit and application of research skills.
- Effective communication and problem‑solving skills.

- Knowledge of clinical governance.
