The job description, together with the Capabilities Framework and job plan, will be reviewed annually and agreed with the Clinical Director and Divisional Director, on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer, to ensure that it continually reflects the areas of work, clinical responsibility of the post and purchaser requirements.
Responsibilities- Provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and General Practitioners, and attend multi-disciplinary meetings.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team in providing high quality clinical care.
- Work across three sites, closer to patients home.
- Assist in extending services to GP surgeries/health centres; be prepared for revised job plans as required.
- Be responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in their charge and for personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in the job plan, including delegation and training of staff.
- Provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely, appropriate care and patient flow.
- Attend Consultant ward rounds and triage ward referrals; prepare patients for planned treatment and postoperative care as required.
- Provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care, including discharge summaries.
- Attend multi-disciplinary meetings (which may be cross county and cross site); collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high quality, timely service and meet Trust/departmental objectives.
- Provide professional supervision, training and management of junior medical staff; contribute to postgraduate and CPD activity locally and nationally as appropriate.
- Participate in the middle grade on-call rota and a 7/7 working rota to ensure emergency and urgent services are provided out of normal hours, shared equally with colleagues in post.
- If undertaking non-resident on-call duties, attend the hospital site to review patients when clinically necessary.
- Be prepared to attend willingly whenever requested by medical or nursing team members.
- Participate in clinical audit as part of quality improvement activity under local arrangements.
- Commit to annual appraisal as undertaken by a trust-approved appraiser and maintain ongoing professional development requirements with support from the Trust.
- It is mandatory for all Specialists to keep up to date with evidence-based practice.
- Maintain awareness of and act in accordance with professional guidelines such as Duties of a Doctor, Good Medical Practice, and GMC Performance Procedures.
