+ Uses product-finishing knowledge to assess appearance, weights, finish, and dimensions against specifications.

+ Handles manufactured products including Abrasives wheels, Abrasive Segments, Ceramic finish, and Kiln furniture.

+ Finished products will require more complex geometry and shape requirements, small, tight tolerances or precision than those handled by Finishing Operator I.

+ Uses CNC equipment and various type of precision instruments and equipment, (i.e., vernier calipers, height gauges, protractors, comparators, plug gauges, dial indicators) to attain accurate dimensions and sometimes tight, high precision tolerances.

+ May use stationary equipment such as Amni, V-sider, shape wheel chuck, sandblasting, equipment speed tester, laser scribe, cut-saw, water jet, and balancer.

+ Inspects product and equipment to verify or determine changes in dimensional requirements using rulers, calipers, and micrometers

+ May make simple edits to programs that run machines, (i.e., CNC).

+ May trim, scrape, shape, or deburr objects or parts, using chisels, scrapers, power wash micrometer, and other hand tools. Finishing Operator II works to engineered specifications by setting up and operating various types of machines or hand tools for multiple grinding/finishing operations. Product handled may be in forms ranging from initial shaping to final finishing.

+ Operate finishing machines that involve more complex, computer controlled operations that require more elaborate setups

+ Cut products with more complex finish geometry and shape requirements.

+ Studies blueprints, work orders, machine instructions and applies finishing experience to determine product specifications, tool/equipment requirements or operational sequences. Typically for a Finishing Operator II, the set-up involves a greater number of steps and pieces.

+ Selects machine tooling to be used, utilizing knowledge of machine and production requirements, adjusts production equipment/machinery set-up using hand or power tools. Transfers equipment, objects, or parts to specified work areas using moving devices when applicable

+ Moves machine controls to position and sets up work pieces and adjusts machines for pre-selected or self determined operational settings. Observes machine operations to detect any problems; make necessary adjustments to correct problems.

+ Responsible to push start and stop buttons on finishing equipment to finish product.

+ Loads or unloads material or work piece manually or with hoists into machinery.

+ Records product and processing data on specified forms and computers.

+ Verifies quality of finished work pieces by inspecting them, comparing them to templates, measuring their dimensions, or speed testing electronically.

- + HS Diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent experience required.

+ Technical school training, apprenticeship program, or equivalent work experience necessary in operating CNC machines & other related machines may be required.

+ Should possess knowledge of blueprint reading, trade mathematics in computing and verifying dimensions in the planning, layout out, and final dimensional checking process.

+ This position requires up to 4 months' work experience to become proficient in all phases of the job to work independently. Skill and care in material handling is required for effective product quality.

+ Plans and performs a higher skill-set as compared to Finishing Operator I in a sequence of operations where recognized operation methods are sometimes not available.

+ May require considerable independent initiative, judgment, and decision making to interpret complex blueprint specifications for a variety of intricate machine set-ups and adjustments.

+ Work is often repetitive and sequential. Normally work at a steady continuous pace performing multiple tasks concurrently to maximize productivity.

+ Normally works independently and determines the best approach to the given job based on written work instructions, work orders, schematics and/or own knowledge and experience. Judgment latitude is moderate and decisions on the equipment or product are often made with little instruction.

+ Calculations of difficult and complex product shapes and angels require strong mathematical ability and a high degree of attention to detail. Supervisory guidance is given or sought for workload, work assignments and technical assistance. Responsible to inspect own work with precision measuring equipment for quality control.

Physical Demands/Efforts

+ The Finishing Operator II must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance and weight greater than 50 pounds with lift devise assistance.

+ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for continuous periods of time, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

+ The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.
