And everyone, in their own unique way, plays an important part, every  collaboration with Chair of Critical Care, oversees critical care patient care management and ensures excellence in professional nursing is practiced in accordance with established standards of regulatory and nursing standards of practice at UMMHC. S/He is responsible for multiple units and Critical Care Float Pool, respiratory therapy, IV therapy, and dialysis located on both the University and Memorial campuses.

Goals will target improvements in patient access/throughput, regulatory readiness, critical care quality improvement metrics, budget and human resources management. S/He ensures the efficient day-to-day operational function of assigned areas by establishing an environment that fosters interdisciplinary patient/family centered care.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1.  Evaluates patient care needs across multiple units and ensures staffing utilization meets patient requirements.  
2.  Collaborates with physician and nursing “flow champions” to efficiently admit, transfer and discharge patients.  
3.  Identifies and plans programs, equipment, facility, staffing needs which supports high quality, safe patient care in collaboration with nursing colleagues, physicians, therapists, and administrative personnel.
4.  Coordinates clinical practice and deployment of resources across units to ensure ongoing implementation of the nursing process.  
5.  Serves as a role model and resource for less experienced managers in assisting them to meet the responsibilities of their positions.  
6.  Develop process for regular communication and meetings with management team.
7.  Regularly attends departmental huddles.  
8.  Serves as management’s contact for the various unions existing within Nursing, including negotiations, grievances etc.
9.  Establishes and maintains effective communications within the department and with other departments.  10. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with community agencies, groups, professional affiliations, etc., as appropriate.  11. Identifies community needs and trends, and develops programs to meet those needs.  Investigates service expansion, recommends new programs, and oversees implementation as opportunities present themselves.  12. Provide updates for Daily Safety Briefing and/or attends as designee.

Standard Management Level Responsibilities:
1.  Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training.  Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions.  Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
