SUSTAINABILITY AND GIS ANALYST — DEPARTMENT OF SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCE — CITY OF WORCHESTER

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Sustainability and GIS Analyst within the Department of Sustainability and Resilience (DSR) to provide analytical, spatial GIS, and occasional project management support. Under the direction of the Director of Sustainability Projects, this position will support municipal sustainability and resilience initiatives in the Green Worcester Plan by managing and analyzing energy and environmental data, preparing reports and presentations, and collaborating across departments and with the community to advance climate and energy goals.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS
  • Work collaboratively on an interdisciplinary project team on initiatives addressing building energy, waste management, environmental data, climate change resilience, and related issues
  • Gather and analyze energy and other sustainability data managed by the DSR for the City and its community
  • Maintain accurate municipal energy production and consumption data in the web-based tool, Mass Energy Insight
  • Lead on energy and sustainability reporting, such as CDP, EIA, LBER, and Green Communities
  • Maintain and analyze department data records, including municipal renewable energy production, net metering credits, and EV charging stations’ electricity consumption, and draft associated interdepartmental invoices
  • Perform project-specific technical calculations to estimate sustainability and resilience impacts and cost/benefit analysis
  • Leverage spatial digital tools (e.g., Crowdsource maps, Story Maps, etc.) to foster meaningful community engagement and integrate mapping and data analysis into project reports
  • Assist with electric vehicle charging stations’ software monitoring and management
  • Develop clear, engaging presentation materials—using PowerPoint or other media—to communicate technical and analytical information effectively
  • Conduct analysis of survey data and prepare clear, actionable summaries to inform executive decision-making
  • Assist with maintaining technical content on the Green Worcester dashboard
  • Staff approximately 10 evening public meetings annually
  • Prepare deliverables including memos, reports, and presentations
  • Assist with grant applications, administration and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of a wide range of sustainability and resilience topics
  • Proficient with ArcGIS; working knowledge of Informational Mapping Platforms
  • Proficient with standard productivity software (MS-Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
  • Ability to examine data from different primary and secondary data sources and create meaningful analyses and express complex data analyses in a concise and accessible written form
  • Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, adaptable to diverse audiences
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Skilled at managing multiple projects and prioritizing multiple tasks and demands
  • Willingness and ability to learn and think creatively
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Regular onsite attendance is required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of experience in a professional and/or academic setting using ArcGIS software
  • Two years of research and analytical experience in a professional and/or academic setting (internship experience will be considered)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two years of experience having used ArcGIS or related informational mapping platforms to develop engaging maps
  • Three years of research and analytical experience in a professional and/or academic setting (internship experience will be considered) specifically related to sustainability topics
  • One year working on energy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and similar data analysis and reporting
  • Experience developing a cost benefit analysis for a project

Salary range: $33.72 – $41.09 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
