This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional and experienced nurse, with evidence of excellent professional and educational practice to join a team of enthusiastic and committed staff within the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work closely with practice and university colleagues to develop the discipline of mental health nursing through strong collaborative partnerships and contributing to transformational agendas reflecting the diverse and challenging nature of health and social care. Our desire as an academic community is to develop critical, competent and compassionate practitioners who can make a positive contribution to and impact upon nursing practice.
We particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience or practice in learning disability nursing also.
By providing expert knowledge, the post holder will be expected to teach and lead agreed modules, assess students, supervise undergraduate research studies, and engage in curriculum development. Staff within the School contribute to all of our NMC approved programmes and it is essential that the appointee is able to adopt a flexible approach to the subjects they teach.
About usThe School sits within the College of Health, Life and Environmental Science and benefits greatly from two outstanding research centres; the University of Worcester is home to the Association for Dementia Studies, which make a national and international contribution to building evidence-based practical ways of working with people living with dementia and their families. In addition, the Mood Disorders Research Centre focuses on investigations of bipolar disorder and other related affective and psychotic illnesses.
Jobresponsibilities
1. To contribute through module and / or course leadership to the academic, clinical skills and simulation teaching within the School, drawing on ones own area of specialism and to design teaching sessions which maximise the integration of theory to clinical practice.
2. To contribute to the assessment process for students including the setting, marking and moderation of work, individually or collectively as part of a team in accordance with quality assurance procedures.
3. To contribute to the design and development of innovative, inclusive, and inspiring learning materials and assessments including e-learning.
4. To act as a Personal Academic Tutor, which may include Individual Learner Progress Reviews (ILPR`s).
5. To ensure all teaching, learning and assessment activity meets the requirements of university quality assurance processes and external quality standards such as the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IFATE) occupational standards aligned to the Professional Body standards (Nursing and Midwifery Council, NMC), The Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) and are compliant with the Educational and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).
6. To provide support for external quality inspections (e.g. OFSTED, NMC, EFSA), which may be at short notice, and may necessitate working outside of normal office hours.
7. To engage as an Academic Assessor to collate and confirm student achievement of NMC proficiencies and programme outcomes.
8. To carry out academic administrative work and participate in relevant committees within the School and College.
9. To participate in the recruitment of students, including selection events and open days.
10. To ensure that the teaching for which you are responsible is informed by contemporary research, scholarship, knowledge exchange and professional practice, and develops the ability of students to engage in debate, critical discourse and thinking.
11. Where appropriate, to undertake research, scholarship, and knowledge transfer through engaging in professional practice and contributing to research and its dissemination through publication.
12. Participate fully in the life of the School and carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of School or her / his nominee.
13. To participate in annual staff development and review processes.
14. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.
15. Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety, and well-being and that of other staff and students.
