Urology Surgicalist Opportunity - UMass, Worcester, MA
UMass Memorial Medical Group is currently seeking two dedicated and experienced BE/BC Urology Surgicalists to join our dynamic team. We welcome and support physician caregivers from all Academic Ranks to apply and join us in our relentless pursuit of healing.
Position SummaryThe Department of Urology at UMass Memorial Health, the clinical partner of UMass Chan Medical School, offers physicians an extraordinary opportunity to work in a high volume academic surgical practice.
This hospital-based position is dedicated to the surgical and inpatient management of urologic conditions, delivering urgent and emergent care for hospitalized patients and providing surgical consultations in both the emergency department and inpatient setting. The schedule follows a format, offering excellent work-life balance. Physicians benefit from access to advanced OR technology, 24/7 imaging, and interventional radiology support, as well as a collaborative team that includes APPs, residents in the teaching hospital, and ancillary staff.
Ideally suited for urologists who excel in fast-paced, acute care environments, this role ensures rapid access to surgical urology care—enhancing patient outcomes, reducing emergency department wait times, and minimizing the need for transfers. The selected candidate will receive a highly competitive compensation and benefits package, along with an academic appointment commensurate with experience and training. This unique Urology Surgicalist role provides the rare advantage of focusing exclusively on high-impact inpatient care without the demands of an outpatient practice, while also offering significant opportunities for professional growth.
- Provide inpatient and emergency department urology consultations
- Perform intra-operative consultations
- Manage urgent and emergent urologic procedures and surgeries (e.g., obstructing stones, gross hematuria, testicular torsion, urologic trauma, urinary retention)
- Provide comprehensive care for hospitalized urology patients, including post-operative management
- Collaborate closely with hospitalists, intensivists, emergency medicine physicians, and surgical subspecialists
- Participate in surgical quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
- May supervise or mentor medical students, residents, or advanced practice providers
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Urology.
- Eligible for medical licensure in Massachusetts.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
- Comfortable managing high-acuity urologic emergencies in a hospital-based setting.
