WHO YOU ARE YOUR ROLE & IMPACTThe mission of Charles River Community Health (CRCH) is to partner with individuals and families so they can thrive and lead healthier lives by delivering the comprehensive, integrated, and equitable primary healthcare that matters most to them. The Dental Hygienist will play a key role in delivering exceptional dental care to CRCH patients. The Dental Hygienist will provide both administrative support and direct care to patients while working collaboratively to ensure continued excellence in performance standards.
YOURRESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the supervision of a dentist, provide prophylactic/preventative oral hygiene services to patients of the health center.
- Obtain complete medical histories for all new patients during the initial visit.
- Update complete medical histories at recall appointments. Any patient medical status change should be noted in the EDR at every visit.
- Take digital radiographs as appropriate and format them within the EDR.
- Perform routine dental prophylaxis on adult and pediatric patients.
- Perform scaling and root planning with local anesthesia as directed by a dentist.
- Provide oral health education to patients during these visits.
- Apply sealants to teeth at risk for dental caries at the dentist's direction.
- Refer patients needing further restorative work or care of hard or soft tissue lesions to a dentist at the health center.
- Meet with the dentist to review complex cases or unusual situations concerning patients.
- Ensure that notes in the EDR are complete and accurate.
- Return signed encounter forms to PSR for billing.
- Follow and maintain proper infection control in the clinical areas. Help prepare instruments for sterilization, including sharpening hygiene instruments as needed.
- Participate in various health center activities and committees, including community outreach and patient education opportunities.
- Assist in training and orienting new dental staff.
- Work collaboratively with other health center staff in meeting regulatory and/or funding requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Dental or designee.
- Associate, Bachelor, or Master’s Degree in dental hygiene. Limited license dentist candidates who have an interest in preventive services may also be considered.
- Minimum of one year of experience.
- Maintain an active dental hygiene license or is eligible for licensing as a limited license dentist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- Must have a willingness to work flexible hours to meet the organization's needs/demands.
- Must be able to travel to either Charles River Community Health site (Brighton and Waltham) as needed.
- Must have excellent communication skills, particularly with people from diverse cultures, with the ability to understand the community, population, and patients we serve.
- Must believe in the work we do at CRCH, with a strong passion to serve underserved populations in diverse settings.
