Pay Rate: $14.38 per hour (seasonal)
The Seasonal Nursery Worker is responsible for loading, delivering, and maintaining nursery merchandise, grounds, and fields using equipment including loaders, bobcats, and forklifts. The position requires full availability for the entire contracted period and is classified as Skill Level I – entry‑level with close supervision.
Job Duties- Haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, and other materials.
- Dig, rake, and screen soil; fill cold frames and hot beds to prepare for planting.
- Plant, spray, weed, water plants, shrubs, and trees; sow grass seed; plant plugs of sod; cut, roll, and stack sod.
- Prepare fields and soil for planting; remove debris, stumps, brush, ferns, vines, and other growth using tractors and hand tools.
- Pot seedlings or liners by hand or mechanical planter; propagate plants from cuttings; perform general plant maintenance (prune, trim, space, transplant, and cull).
- Pack, label, tag, pull, and store plants by variety; count, grade, and inventory plants.
- Wrap root balls and secure with burlap, twine, or staples; crimp wire baskets; prepare products for shipment.
- Inspect products for damage/defects, discard inferior items, and record weights and grades.
- Operate equipment safely, following quality control standards and production procedures.
- Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment.
- Report tasks and issues to supervisor in a timely and accurate manner.
Work is performed outdoors for long periods, often in direct sun, rain, or extreme temperatures. Workers may lift up to 60 pounds and must be able to work on their feet for extended times. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn, and casual clothing is prohibited on the job site.
Qualifications- Strong hand and finger dexterity for grasping, manipulating, or assembling objects.
- Ability to differentiate colors, textures, and other attributes of products.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record may be required for operating company vehicles.
- Basic mechanical competence with construction and farm equipment.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
- Background check and drug test clearance are required before starting work.
