Shift: Second Shift (8 Hours per day, 3:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.)
Term: 12 months (260 days per year)
Salary Range: $24.52 – $30.05 per hour
Shift Premium: $0.30 per hour

General Description

Performs preventative and service maintenance related to building and grounds; operates vehicles and equipment as required; follows safety practices and procedures; follows codes and requirements pertaining to public facilities; performs custodial tasks as necessary; represents the Wooster City School District in a favorable image at all times.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training and/or experience in maintenance, repair, and/or custodial functions (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, etc.).
  • Current, valid Class D Operator Driver's License.
  • Valid certifications or licenses required for job functions (asbestos, water systems, boilers, etc.).
Essential Functions
  • Repairs and maintains the safe condition of HVAC systems, lighting fixtures, electrical apparatus, wiring, refrigeration units, and similar elements in district facilities in accordance with current laws and regulations.
  • Repairs and maintains the safe condition of pipes, drains, plumbing fixtures, and waste disposal systems in district facilities.
  • Repairs and maintains the safe condition of flooring, door frames, doors, window frames, staircases, stair treads, wall paneling, ceiling paneling, hardware, and other structural elements in district facilities.
  • Responsible for preventive maintenance in school facilities.
  • Examines school buildings and grounds regularly for needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Determines which repair jobs can be performed in-house and which require outside contractors, advising the Maintenance Supervisor accordingly.
  • Installs and operates lighting and electrical/sound equipment in auditoriums and gymnasiums for special events.
  • Inspects and maintains fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers in accordance with laws and regulations.
  • Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase and maintains an inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Orders materials as needed and makes recommendations for purchases.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Assists co‑workers as required.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned, including flexible schedule for tasks such as snow removal.
  • Performs routine grounds tasks as directed.
  • Participates in a rotating on‑call schedule as needed to meet district needs.

Inherently Hazardous and Physically Demanding Working Conditions
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissues.
  • Occasional operation of vehicles and equipment under inclement weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme heat.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes and/or emissions.
  • Occasional use of solvents, cleaning agents, and other hazardous chemicals.
  • Occasional performance of duties requiring extension ladders or scaffolding.
  • Occasional operation of tools and equipment.
  • Lifting and moving supplies, materials, and equipment (e.g., furniture, ladders, scaffolding, bags of salt and fertilizer, appliances, etc.).
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Knowledge of plumbing, masonry, HVAC systems, laws, codes, and general maintenance and repair (electrical, carpentry, regulations, safety practices). Ability to perform light to heavy physical labor, lift and move up to 80 lbs., communicate effectively, develop and maintain relationships with supervisors, co‑workers, students, and the general public, and operate standard tools of the trade.
