- Utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of adults requiring vascular access device (VAD) placement.
- Perform VAD insertion and maintenance using ultrasound and modified Seldinger Technique (MST) for placement.
- Communicate with physicians, co-workers and/or nursing director about the patient s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient patient quality care is provided.
- Adhere to regulations, standards and hospital or unit policies and procedures.
- Participate in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services.
- Utilize high degree of computer skills with data input and reporting mechanisms; document data for quality measures and routine audits.
- Maintain and reorder supplies as needed daily.
- Coordinate scheduling and prioritize all requests.
- Provide patient and family/significant other education; staff education and in-services.
- Follow up on patient VAD status, dressing changes and troubleshooting problems.
- Act as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.
- Education, Experience, Training
- Current and valid RI State RN License.
- Current BLS and ACLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- Infusion Nurse Certification preferred.
- Successful completion of Ultrasound guided PICC placement using Modified Seldinger Technique program.
- Minimum of three years nursing experience, with high level of competency in peripheral catheter placement.
- PICC and other Vascular Access Device care required.
