Position: Rehab Nurse Technician-Inpatient Rehab Part Time Days

Responsibilities
  • Under the direction/delegation and supervision of a professional registered nurse, assist the patient with activities of daily living, mobility skills, skin, bowel and bladder programs, and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Provide additional technical skills under the direction of the RN, including de-escalation techniques and 12-lead EKG.
  • Precept new RNT employees and partner with RNT-certified nursing students during clinical rotation.
  • Serve as an active participant in unit quality projects, including data collection and unit equipment inventory/maintenance.
  • Participate in patient care activities such as transfers, mobility, feeding support, and therapy readiness preparation.
  • Assist with menus, meals, and nutrition-related observations, including calorie counts, intake/output, and dysphagia guidance under RN direction.
  • Respond to patient call lights and meet care needs with appropriate urgency.
  • Support safety and environmental rounds and contribute to de-escalation and one-to-one safety supervision as needed.
  • Maintain and organize unit equipment inventories and participate in bedside handoffs.
  • Provide support on the Cardiac Arrest team and participate in other clinical activities as assigned by nursing leadership.
Quality Improvement
  • Participates in system and local quality improvement goals.
  • Collects data and audits for Joint Commission readiness and improvement projects.
  • Assists in maintaining unit readiness to meet regulatory standards.
Communication
  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship to provide patient-focused care.
  • Communicates effectively with patients at an appropriate age and cognitive level, with cultural sensitivity.
  • Interacts effectively with peers and hospital staff to foster positive working relationships.
  • Triage patient or general concerns to the RN as needed.
Infection Control/Patient Safety
  • Contributes to safe, effective, and professional patient care, including use of safety/restrictive devices.
  • Follows Infection Control policies and Marianjoy policies on precautions and safety procedures.
Adaptability and Flexibility
  • Rotates to all units based on patient care needs.
  • Adjusts to changes in policy, procedures, and patient population.
Qualifications Required:
  • High School or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Current Nursing Assistant certification (C.N.A.) or current enrollment in an RN nursing program with successful completion of two clinical rotations.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Basic math skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people and provide high-level customer service.
  • Understanding and support of Northwestern Medicine’s Mission and Values.
  • Ability to manage flexibility in a changing environment.
  • 12-lead EKG competency completed within 6 months of employment.
  • Physical demands include lift/carry up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 55 pounds.
Preferred:
  • 2-5 years of work experience in rehabilitation hospital, acute care hospital, or skilled nursing facility.
