IT Project Manager – Smith Douglas Homes

In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering technology projects on time, within scope, and within budget. The IT Project Manager will manage cross‑functional teams, coordinate resources, and maintain clear communication with stakeholders to deliver projects. They will analyze business and technical requirements to develop comprehensive project plans and manage change effectively throughout the project lifecycle, identify risks, resolve issues, and ensure that IT projects meet organizational needs.

This position plays a critical role in driving successful IT initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and support business growth.

Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Delivery
  • Lead end‑to‑end planning and execution of IT projects from initiation through closure.
  • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource plans in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, work plans, and milestone tracking.
  • Manage day‑to‑day project activities, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to expected quality.
  • Facilitate regular project status meetings and ensure clear communication of progress and issues.
Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders and sponsors.
  • Understand business goals and translate them into clear technical and functional requirements.
  • Set expectations on scope, timelines, risks, and constraints; gain alignment and approvals at key milestones.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and decisions in a concise manner to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Requirements & Scope Management
  • Work with business owners, product owners, and subject matter experts to gather and document requirements.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews, and process mapping sessions to understand current and future state.
  • Create and maintain project artifacts (requirements documents, user stories, use cases, process flows, etc.).
  • Manage scope changes through a defined change control process, including impact analysis and approvals.
Risk, Issue, and Dependency Management
  • Identify project risks and dependencies early; develop mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Maintain risk and issue logs and drive resolution with the appropriate owners.
  • Escalate critical risks and roadblocks promptly with recommended options or decisions.
  • Ensure appropriate quality checks, testing, and sign‑offs are built into the project plan.
Budget & Vendor Management
  • Support the development and tracking of project budgets, estimates, and forecasts.
  • Monitor project spend against budget and report variances with explanations and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with vendors and external partners, including managing deliverables, timelines, and SLAs.
  • Assist with RFPs, vendor evaluations, and contract management as needed.
Change Management & Training
  • Partner with business leaders to plan and execute change management activities.
  • Support communication plans, training materials, and end‑user documentation.
  • Ensure that impacted users are prepared for process and system changes ahead of go‑live.
  • Collect feedback post‑implementation and drive continuous improvements.
Governance & Documentation
  • Ensure projects follow established IT governance, security, and compliance standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date documentation for all project phases.
  • Conduct project retrospectives and document lessons learned for future initiatives.
  • Provide input into improving project management methods, templates, and tools.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing IT projects or business/technology initiatives.
  • Proven track record delivering projects on time and within scope and budget.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC and project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid).
  • Experience working with cross‑functional teams including IT, business stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (Monday, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Azure Dev Ops, Jira, etc.).
