PROVISIONAL COUNSELOR, SUBSTANCE ABUSE JOB SUMMARYIn this role, you will provide group and individual counseling, community support, case coordination and crisis intervention services to clients with a primary substance use disorder diagnosis.
Responsibilities- Complete assessment of each client
- Initiate and sustain each individual’s motivation to participate in treatment.
- Develop a comprehensive service plan for each client.
- Provide daily treatment and curriculum-based education groups.
In conjunction with supervisor and treatment team, you will provide chemical dependency counseling services to patients and their families/collaterals through assessment and design, implementation, and revision of treatment plan.
- High school diploma or GED and twenty-four (24) credit hours of college education or accredited training program in substance abuse counseling and/or other human services area.
- Any new professional staff who do not have an IAODAPCA CADC or above certification when hired or first moved into this position must:
- Obtain an IAODAPCA CADC within two years after the date of employment commences
- Ability to promote positive behavior and manage resistant behavior.
- Physical ability to safely and effectively manage aggressive behavior.
- Assertiveness, confidence and leadership abilities.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Criminal clearances (State, child clearances and, if necessary, FBI).
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
- Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
