Job Title: Forklift Driver
Pay Rate: $17.50/hr.
Shift: 1st (7 AM - 3:30 PM)
Benefits: Medical, Dental, AD&D, PSL
Summary of Functions: Forklift driver will perform tasks as needed in all production areas (i.e. load/unload flatbed trailers, dump product into assigned areas, transport empty/full bins, oversee bin containers around various areas, etc.) and other duties as assigned. Forklift driver will need to use the scanner to track containers and/or materials for inventory purposes; this includes (i.e. bin movements, material(s), dumping pallet or bin tag, reporting tags, etc.).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keep work areas clean and well organized.
- Report to work areas on time at the beginning of the shift and/or after each rest period.
- Observe safety practices and comply with company policies and procedures.
- When a problem interferes with machinery, inform the lead and/or supervisor regarding any mechanical or safety issues immediately.
- Immediately inform lead and/ or Supervisor when finished product does not meet the required specifications.
- Suggest changes as needed to improve working conditions for employees and/or use of equipment to increase efficiency in the processing rooms.
- Work in various assigned areas depending on staffing and production needs.
- Maneuver forklifts safely with extreme caution, use horn and obey pedestrian traffic in all production areas where forklift vehicles are used.
- Report any safety or maintenance issues (i.e. fluid leaks, defective brakes, steering, lights, horn, missing fire extinguisher, seat belt, or back up alarm, etc.) for immediate repair.
- Repair request form needs to be filled out and given to the lead and/or supervisor when vehicles repairs are needed.
- Fill out daily inspection log per shift and/or vehicle.
- Coordinate with supervisors, employees, other departments regarding loading and unloading operations.
- Log container/material information using scanning devices and manufacturing execution system (MES) software.
- Report any damages, incidents and material shortages to lead and/or supervisor.
- Transport containers/materials to different locations within the facility.
- When transferring product to other areas, cover bins with cardboard lids.
- Sanitize forklift wheels, containers and materials transferred in the facility from the outdoors.
- Before filling bins assure bins are free of contaminants such as trash, mold, dust, flavoring, etc.
- Follow proper recharging or refueling safety procedures.
- Return all forklifts to their assigned areas after use.
Food Safety Requirements/Responsibilities:
- Compliance with all GMP, Food Safety, and General Safety rules and regulations.
- Compliance with local, state, federal, and corporate food safety regulatory standards as well as company quality standards provided by facility, regional, and corporate quality authorities.
- Knowledge of the client's Food Safety Management System and its application in a processing environment.
Organization Relationships:
- Work with Production Department Area Lead and or Supervisor to ensure food safety and Maintenance Management System to ensure food safety of the client's Food Safety/Safety Management System.
- Report directly to Production Area Lead and/or Production Supervisor.
- Must have the ability to work together as a team to produce the highest quality products in the most efficient manner.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.) or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
- The Client is willing to provide adequate training to prospective and able candidate.
- Strong ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, company policies, handbook and all instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
- Must have the ability to effectively present and communicate information to lead and/or production supervisor.
- Forklift experience required.
- Basic computer skills.
Physical Demands:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and sit or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time.
Work Environment:
- The employee may be exposed to but not limited to (i.e. loud noises, salts, ingredient odors, etc.) while performing work duties.
- The employee must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices while performing their assigned duties.
- The company will provide safety equipment as needed for job functions.
- May require flexibility in shifts, hours and days of the workweek. Some overtime may be required during high sales volumes.
