Supervisory Responsibility:
Waterfront Staff
- Collaborate with a team of 2–3 waterfront staff to plan, lifeguard, and supervise activities including swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and stand‑up paddle boarding.
- Assist Program Director with daily equipment logs and property upkeep.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all waterfront equipment and areas.
- Support health and wellness practices and provide emergency procedures during on‑site and off‑site incidents.
- Provide assistance or coverage for additional operational and program staff as needed.
- Support cabin, health, site, kitchen, and housekeeping staff.
- Instruct and supervise all waterfront activities, ensuring safety and appropriate adaptations for all participants.
- During waterfront activities or when assigned, act ‘in loco parentis’ and guide a group of campers during overnight camp sessions.
- Provide support and counsel to campers in daily living, camp activities, and peer relationships.
- Supervise a team of 2–3 waterfront staff for delivery of the waterfront program.
- Train and orient staff on proper use of specialized equipment and program delivery.
- Verify staff competence before assignment to waterfront activities and monitor performance throughout the season.
- Provide evaluation and coaching for assigned staff.
- Manage administrative responsibilities in a timely, independent, and detail‑oriented manner.
- Develop, review, and assist in creating daily and weekly activity schedules in cooperation with other staff.
- Provide a system for accurate logs, forms, inventory, and record keeping.
- Participate in camper and staff feedback forms for overall camp strategic planning.
- Attend regular staff meetings and training for planning, communication, and assignment execution.
- Coordinate and communicate staff schedules to campers and staff as necessary.
- Carry out ongoing observations to assure goals and expectations of leadership and program delivery align positively.
- Interact with digital systems including Work Bright, Slack, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Respect confidentiality of all information related to staff, volunteers, and campers.
- Follow policies, procedures, and standards set by the American Camping Association, Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints, Colorado Department of Health and Human Services, and other certifying industry organizations.
- High school diploma or GED and at least one year of college or equivalent work experience.
- Current or willingness to obtain Lifeguard Certification, First Aid/CPR, Child Abuse Mandated Reporter, Universal Standard Precautions, and Medication Administration.
- Documented experience in supervision and leadership of peers and/or staff.
- Proven waterfront skills, including swimming and watercraft operation.
- Minimum of 2 years in waterfront areas with safe practices involving swimming, boating, or working near water.
- Experience or desire to work with children.
- Proven ability to assess a swimmer’s ability.
- Ability to run a program 6–8 hours daily, 6–7 days per week.
- Preferred experience working in an outdoor program and/or camp setting.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Willingness to provide innovative and engaging program development in an informal, outdoor setting.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check acceptable to GSCO standards.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Waterfront equipment: life vests, paddles, etc.
- Watercraft: canoes, kayaks, stand‑up paddle boards, etc.
- Program equipment used in activities such as hiking, hot elements, and other outdoor skill activities.
- Handheld radios.
- Golf carts, gator, trucks, and leased vehicles as directed.
- Camps are at altitudes of 8,000–9,500 feet.
