Position Summary/

Purpose:

The school nurse will oversee health services at the Jr/Sr High School. The primary purpose is to minimize absences due to illness, maximize educational opportunities and create a healthy school climate. The school nurse will build strong relationships with school leadership, support teams, students and parents/guardians to maximize student well-being and integrate support.

Responsibilities include:

developing comprehensive individualized health care plans/participating in the IEP and 504 process, ensuring immunization compliance, conducting hearing and vision screenings, facilitating community coordination, performing disease surveillance and training staff.

Salary
Compensation (based on 100% FTE): $48,000-$60,000 depending on years of experience

• Work collaboratively with health care providers, students, parents/guardians, school district staff and community agencies to ensure educational access and continuity of care for students.
• Interprets health history information, medical reports and records, nursing observations/assessments and test results to meet student needs and develop health care plans as appropriate.
• Develops individual health care plans when needed with specific goals, nursing diagnosis and interventions for inclusions in a student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
• Administered medication and provides medical procedures, as needed, under the Nurse Practice Act.
• Skillfully handles the emergency care of acutely ill or injured individuals.
• Establishes and maintains a comprehensive school health program.
• Works collaboratively and trains/supervises health aide, or appropriate staff, to provide delegated health services to students to include medication administration, first aid and other assigned health assistant duties. Ensures competence in health room management tasks and any delegated task.
• Contributes and collaborates with school administration on the health assistance evaluation process.
• Monitors immunizations, manages communicable disease/infection surveillance and control measures and assesses the school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety. Follow state rules and regulations and district policy.
• Coordinates and participates in hearing and vision screenings following state law and district policy.
• Maintains accurate records, documentation and confidentiality in accordance with state and federal law and district policy.
• Serve as a member of school teams as the designated health care professional (ie emergency response team, special education team, student support team).
• Serves as a resource, instructor, and consultant in the area of health education.
• Provide other related tasks as assigned by supervisor or other administrators.
• Serves as a consultant with other school professionals/departments such as nutrition services, athletic department, physical education, counselors, teachers and administrators.
• Communicates effectively with students, parents and staff about student health concerns.
• Communication and actions are open and collaborative with administrators, staff and colleagues.
• Pursues continuous professional growth.

• Bachelor's degree or higher in nursing or related field from an accredited college/university
• Minimum 1 year experience in nursing
• Preferred experience in pediatric nursing, community or public health nursing or school nursing

• Active Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Registered Nurse (RN) licensure; required at entry
• CDE Special Service Provider license with a School Nurse Endorsement (or licensure application in process)
• Current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

The school nurse is responsible for the legal and clinical supervision of delegated healthcare tasks, which is distinct from administrative supervision by a school administrator
