Overview
Fairview Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury, MN has opened their Respiratory Care Assistant role for the 2026 year. This is an opportunity for students currently enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program in their junior or senior year to gain knowledge, skills, and real-world practice during your program. Respiratory Care Assistants may be eligible for the MN Dual Training Grant to assist with educational costs while working in the role.
A person in this position would provide routine Respiratory Therapy modalities to patients as appropriate based on this student role and their competency level. The Respiratory Therapy Assistant would be required to show competency in Respiratory Therapy modalities prior to assuming RT role and will work under the direct supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist.
Responsibilities- Performs respiratory therapy duties under the direct supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist as assigned, including but not limited to:
- Maintains changes and discontinues medical gas.
- Performs aerosol and humidity therapies.
- Administers routine airway clearance.
- Administers lung expansion therapies.
- Monitors bronchial drainage.
- Performs ABG (Arterial Blood Gases).
- Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Provides patients, families, and other providers in disease management education.
- Reviews patients' charts to make recommendations for Plan of Care.
- Interprets spirometry results.
- Communicates effectively with CPS staff and other Interprofessional team members.
- Strives to provide excellent customer service.
- Use of AIDET (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation, and thanks) with patients and families.
- Listens and understands customer needs.

Student in good standing in CoARC approved program for Respiratory Therapy. - License/Certification/Registration

Basic Life Support (BLS).
