The Prince William County Department of Social Services, Homeless Services Division, is seeking an energetic part-time Human Services Caseworker Associate to join our team at the Ferlazzo Emergency Shelter (FES).

Located in Woodbridge, Virginia, the FES operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and serves up to 50 single adults experiencing homelessness. The ideal candidate will play a vital part in creating a safe, supportive, and respectful environment while assisting residents as they take critical steps toward housing stability and improved quality of life. About This Role:

A part-time Human Services Caseworker Associate works a regular weekend schedule of Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In this role, you will support daily shelter operations and help ensure a safe, structured, and respectful environment for all residents. You will be responsible for ensuring residents understand and comply with shelter policies, safety procedures, and program expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining the safety and security of the facility
  • Responding to emergency situations and providing crisis intervention and de-escalation
  • Completing required administrative documentation, including daily logs, shift reports, incident reports, and shelter forms
  • Utilizing Microsoft Outlook and Word for documentation and communication
  • Coordinating with community partners who provide meals, educational programming, and recreational activities for residents
  • Fostering positive communication and rapport with volunteers and residents
  • Conducting routine inspections of residents’ sleeping areas
  • Working independently with minimal supervision
Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of experience in a human services or social services-related field.

PREFERENCES:
  • 4 or more years of experience working with homeless individuals and working in a homeless shelter
  • 3 or more years of experience providing customer service in the workplace
  • 3 or more years of experience managing crisis situations and independently making decisions
  • General knowledge of being trauma-informed
  • 1 or more years of experience working with volunteers and donors
  • Certifications in CPR, First Aid, De-escalation, and Crisis Intervention
Special Requirements :
  • Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Department of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
  • All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
  • Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services, and DMV background checks.
  • Staff in this position must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive for work.
  • Staff in this position cannot perform their job by teleworking.
  • Staff in this position will be required to attend meetings and/or trainings outside their work schedule.
  • Staff in this position must be able to report to work in inclement weather or other states of emergency.

This is a part-time position with a regular weekend schedule of Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Hiring Salary Range:

$28.32 to $40.69 hourly
