Overview

Manager, Ambulatory Pharmacy - Health and Wellness Center, METRO PARK RETAIL PHARMACY, Iselin, New Jersey. The Manager, Ambulatory Pharmacy is responsible for the overall successful operation of the assigned Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) retail pharmacies. Establishes and monitors departmental policies and procedures consistent with Federal and State Pharmacy Laws, and ensures ambulatory pharmacy services meet the goals and standards of the medical center.

Participates in hiring, drafting job descriptions and assignment of job responsibilities as needed. Ensures ambulatory pharmacy team members are highly engaged and supports the goals of the pharmacy, maintaining the highest levels of safe pharmacy operation and staff productivity. Represents the Ambulatory Pharmacy department in hospital management meetings and participates in hospital or system level committees as needed. Responsible for annual department budgets, adherence to budget, and deviations therefrom.

Responsible for the overall successful financial operations of the pharmacies including inventory control, narcotic drug controls, third party insurance contracts, and accurate reporting to site and corporate finance departments. Works collaboratively with other HMH Ambulatory Pharmacy Site Managers.

This state-of-the-art, 60,000-square-foot facility will offer a wide array of services, including primary care, urgent care, advanced imaging, and specialists. You will be joining a visionary project that establishes a new standard for healthcare delivery in suburban areas.

The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 9am-7pm and alternating Saturday 9am-2pm.

Responsibilities
  • Assists Administrator of Pharmacy with: operational planning to ensure Pharmacy services meet patient/provider needs; meeting regulatory, accreditation and certification requirements; maintaining control and security of medications; evaluating and implementing new technology; policy and procedure development, implementation, review and revision; oversee functionality, maintenance and system upgrades of automated dispensing, compounding equipment, and workflow software.
  • Manage daily department operations and report significant issues to the Administrator of Pharmacy.
  • Schedule Pharmacy staff and manage payroll within the Pharmacy Department.
  • Coordinate with IT for installation, training, and use of department technology.
  • Manage activities and performance of pharmacists, technicians, couriers, clerks, and other personnel; ensure adequate staffing.
  • Maintain accurate records of all prescription medications received and dispensed.
  • Ensure policies for accurate dispensing and labeling are in place and followed.
  • Maintain security of the prescription area and report any thefts/diversions of controlled substances in accordance with Federal and State requirements.
  • Comply with all state and federal regulations and center policies related to drug dispensing; manage controlled substances appropriately.
  • Ensure only pharmacists and interns/externs under supervision provide professional consultations; ensure renewal authorizations are handled by qualified personnel per state requirements.
  • Maintain stock to prevent misbranded, deteriorated, adulterated, expired, or otherwise non-compliant medications.
  • Keep the prescription area orderly and sanitary; ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Manage pharmacy budget and all financial aspects; promote safety, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Apply safe medication practices; review and dispense prescriptions; monitor patient drug therapy for allergies and interactions.
  • Oversee ancillary staff; conduct periodic staff meetings; address patient needs and deliver care respectfully and confidentially.
  • Ensure staff training and competencies are completed; manage licenses and certifications renewals; conduct annual staff license reviews.
  • Identify patient population needs and adapt care to age, culture, language, and accessibility considerations; communicate with patients and caregivers appropriately.
  • Oversee annual departmental budget goals and other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to Hackensack Meridian Health organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
