Career Technician, Mobile Repair – Wood River, IL
Trinity Industries welcomes applicants for the Career Technician, Mobile Repair position at our Wood River, IL site. This role involves conducting railcar inspections, performing repairs, and ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct railcar inspections to ensure cars are in compliance.
- Perform repairs following current repair procedures.
- Meet all customer expectations to deliver an exceptional experience.
- Maintain accurate invoicing, inspection, and work order information.
- Pass required NDT disciplines and function‑specific certifications (e.g., tank‑car welding).
- Participate in safety assessments and equipment inspections.
- Work within confined spaces and from elevated heights as required.
- Perform confined‑space monitoring and create hot‑work permits.
- Execute outlined work under supervision of a site or crew leader.
- Follow all safety rules and practices; may be involved in safety committees.
- Complete all basic required on‑board training in safety and quality.
- Mentor or train lower‑level technicians when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1.5 years of railcar maintenance or manufacturing experience.
- Proficient in disciplines such as Air Brake Testing, Welding, Gasket Valves and Fasteners, BLTII, PTII, VTII, Qualified Coating Applicator/Inspector, or Abrasive Blaster.
- Basic understanding of engineered drawings.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- Strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations.
- Ability to use hand tools (hammers, torches, wrenches, hydraulic jacks, pneumatic tools, etc.).
- Basic understanding of the Field Manual of the AAR Interchange rules.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Physical ability to work within confined spaces and from elevated heights.
- Willingness to learn all major railcar components and basic functions.
