About the Client/Child Ella is 21 years old and a charismatic, happy, and caring young woman with a real love for walking, adventure, and theme parks. She’s very sociable and enjoys being out and about, meeting people, and keeping busy. Ella has Autism Spectrum Condition and Epilepsy. Her epilepsy developed over the last few years and is currently well managed with daily medication.

She is physically very able and communicates through facial expressions and a few words. At times, particularly when she is pre-menstrual, Ella can become agitated and dysregulated, which may show as biting her hands or banging her head. Loud noises are usually a trigger, and during these moments she responds best to calm reassurance, low demands, and gentle distraction — these episodes are usually short-lived.

Ella currently attends a specialist college in Dorset and receives weekend and school holiday support at the family home in Bourne End.

The Role at a Glance This role is focussed on supporting Ella to build her independence and self-help skills while planning fun, engaging activities and trips she’ll enjoy on weekends and during school holidays. Ella has lots of hobbies and interests, so there will be plenty to get involved with and plan together! As Ella’s Support Worker, you’ll encourage and motivate her, helping her grow in confidence and independence.

The role also includes supporting Ella with personal care, preparing meals, and helping with light household tasks, especially during school holidays. If you’d like to stay over while on shift, the family can provide accommodation in Bourne End for the weekend. There are at least two weekend shifts per month, and the rota is planned 12 weeks in advance, giving plenty of notice to plan ahead.

Ella is in her final year of college, and the family will be exploring residential options from September 2026. While plans are still evolving, the contract will run until at least September 2026, with the possibility of extending until December 2026 should Ella return for an additional college term.
This Job Would Suit This role is perfect for an energetic, positive, and confident
* female Support Worker with experience supporting a young adult with autism. You’ll need to be a driver and happy to help out when needed, making Ella’s weekends and holidays enjoyable and safe.
