The RoleAs a Working Foreman / Assistant Site Manager with a strong carpentry background, you will play a key role in overseeing the carpentry team across a variety of refurbishment projects. You will be expected to not only supervise but also perform hands‑on carpentry work, providing leadership and technical expertise to ensure high‑quality results are consistently achieved. From the structural framing of period properties to the finer finishing touches, this role is perfect for a skilled carpenter looking to take the next step in their career.
Key Responsibilities- Lead & Supervise: Directly oversee the carpentry team, providing guidance, technical support, and leadership to ensure all carpentry works meet the high standards expected on every refurbishment project.
- Hands‑On Carpentry: Carry out a range of carpentry tasks including framing, structural repairs, internal fit‑out works, joinery, window and door installation, flooring, and finishing.
- Project Coordination: Work closely with project managers to plan and schedule carpentry tasks, ensuring all works are completed on time and within budget.
- Quality Control: Monitor the quality of work being produced by your team, checking the accuracy of measurements, installation, and finishes, with a strong focus on attention to detail.
- Health & Safety: Take responsibility for ensuring that all safety procedures are followed on‑site and that the team always adheres to health and safety regulations.
- Qualifications: SSSTS/ SMSTS, NVQ in Carpentry, First Aid At Work, Asbestos Awareness, Fire Marshall
- Proven Carpentry Expertise: Strong background in carpentry, with demonstrable experience working on refurbishment and renovation projects, ideally including listed buildings and heritage work.
- Leadership
Skills:
Previously led a team on construction or refurbishment sites and confident in managing and motivating a team of carpenters and labourers. - Hands‑On Approach: Comfortable working alongside your team, getting stuck into the carpentry work when necessary, and providing practical solutions to problems on‑site.
- Technical Knowledge: In‑depth understanding of building regulations, carpentry techniques, and material properties, with the ability to read and interpret detailed construction drawings and specifications.
- High Standards of Craftsmanship: Pride in work, paying close attention to detail and always striving for excellence.
- Valid Driving Licence: A full, clean driving licence is desirable, as the role may involve travelling to different project sites.
