Overview
There are 20 Approved Premises sites in Midlands - the merit list may be utilised for other sites. The AP Manager will be responsible for managing an Approved Premises, supervising staff, ensuring compliance with NPS strategy, maintaining a safe environment, and participating in out‑of‑hours standby duty rota. The role requires a commitment to equality and inclusion and adherence to policies regarding sensitive and confidential information.
Responsibilities- Provide effective management and leadership to the team.
- Accountable for quality delivery of good practice and team performance improvement within policy and national standards.
- Ensure efficient deployment of team resources.
- Ensure staff meet contract requirements with HMPPS, CRC and local business plans.
- Analyse and apply performance data proactively to improve function and deliver organisational aims.
- Manage staff development, attendance, health and safety, employee relations and diversity matters.
- Ensure AP staff manage risk appropriately and meet public protection standards and targets.
- Contribute to public protection through multi‑agency arrangements and casework reviews.
- Manage self‑harm, wellbeing and social care needs of residents, and carry out First Aid as required.
- Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Manage financial resources as delegated by the AP Area Manager.
- Lead work with partners and key stakeholders, represent NPS appropriately.
- Facilitate effective communication between the AP management team and internal/external partners.
- Respond positively to concerns of neighbours and the local community.
- Participate in the stand‑by duty rota and out‑of‑hours response.
- Ensure effective functioning of contracts for staffing, facilities and estates.
- Play an active role in corporate management of NPS as part of the AP Management Team.
- Carry out safeguarding duties for children and adults in accordance with statutory responsibilities.
- Take on delegated responsibilities or additional duties as appropriate for the grading of the post.
- Demonstrate pro‑social modelling skills, reinforcing pro‑social behaviour and challenging anti‑social attitudes.

- Substantial experience with a proven record of good practice in offender risk assessment and management.
- Experience of risk management and assessment.
- Ability to implement health and safety policies.
- Experience working flexibly within a team to achieve performance targets.
- Experience providing effective administration and information systems.
- Demonstrable achievements in managing/supporting change and improving quality and efficiency.
- Experience championing diversity and inclusiveness internally and externally.
- Evidence of ability to evaluate practice.

- Experience interpreting and applying performance reports.
- Probation Qualification Framework:
Graduate Diploma/Honours Degree in Community Justice integrated with Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice. - Previously recognised qualifications:
Diploma in Probation Studies;
Diploma in Social Work (with Probation Option); CQSW (with Probation Option). - Evidence of IT skills: ability to interpret and apply performance reports.
Proficiency in English (English or Welsh in Wales) is required to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence.
Hybrid WorkingThe MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows, blending work from the base location, other MoJ sites, and/or home. The role must be based in the UK. Hybrid arrangements will be discussed with the successful candidate and reviewed regularly.
