Working from home and from the Civic Centre, St Peters Square, Wolverhampton.
We require an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Environmental Health Service.
The Environmental Health Service is part of the Commercial Regulation Service, working alongside Trading Standards and Licensing in multi-disciplinary teams to improve environmental and commercial standards in the city.
As a Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will be involved in diverse case work supporting core Environmental Protection services. Your duties will include inspecting food premises, conducting health and safety inspections, inspecting animal welfare establishments, investigating noise pollution and nuisances, infectious disease investigations, inspecting permitted processes, and consulting on licensed premises and planning applications.
You will be expected to:
- Process applications and issue environmental permits.
- Undertake inspections of permitted processes.
- Investigate complaints related to statutory nuisances such as noise, odour, and bonfires, and take enforcement action if necessary.
- Assess environmental impacts of planning and licensing applications.
- Respond to requests for environmental information.
Additional responsibilities may include assisting with other Environmental Health functions related to commercial properties and infectious diseases.
Who are we looking for?
We seek an individual with experience in Environmental Protection, particularly in environmental permits and nuisance investigations. You should have strong knowledge of relevant legislation and issues. Excellent communication skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential.
A degree or diploma in environmental health or an equivalent qualification is required. Candidates with a Postgraduate Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control or IOA Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement are encouraged to apply.

This role may require working outside normal hours occasionally, attending meetings, and representing the service.
