To deliver high-quality teaching of GCSE Maths to students with medical and mental health needs, supporting their academic progress and personal development. The role also includes acting as a Key Teacher, providing essential pastoral care, mentoring, and guidance to students in a nurturing environment.

Main Tasks:
Teaching and Learning:

Plan and deliver engaging GCSE Maths lessons tailored to individual students’ abilities and needs.

  • Adapt teaching strategies to support students with gaps in learning due to medical absences.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on student progress in line with school policies and examination requirements.
  • Ensure all students are supported to achieve their full potential through personalised learning approaches.
Pastoral Care and Student Support (Key Teacher Role):
  • Act as a Key Teacher, providing mentoring and emotional support to a small group of students.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to help them re-engage with education.
  • Provide guidance on personal and social development, helping students build confidence and resilience.
  • Liaise with families and external professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
  • Monitor attendance, well-being, and engagement, implementing interventions as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with colleagues, including therapists and other education professionals, to develop and implement holistic support plans.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, parent consultations, and multi-disciplinary meetings as required.
Professional Development and Safeguarding:
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance subject knowledge and teaching practice.
  • Adhere to school safeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and welfare of all students.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with statutory and school requirements.
Accountability:
  • Teachers are responsible to the Headteacher and, in his absence or on his behalf, the Deputy Head Teacher.
  • Teachers are responsible for the curriculum they provide which should reflect school and local education policy and Government legislation.

Safeguarding:

To remain vigilant and do everything possible to protect students and others from abuse of a physical, emotional, sexual, neglectful, financial or institutional nature. This includes an absolute requirement to report to the Headteacher any incident of this nature you witness, hear about or suspect.

Note:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Maths or a related subject are essential, along with experience teaching GCSE Maths and preparing students for examinations. A strong understanding of the GCSE curriculum, assessment criteria, and exam board requirements is required, as well as the ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs. Excellent classroom management, organisational skills, and the ability to monitor progress and implement effective interventions are key.

Experience working with students with additional needs, including mental health challenges or medical conditions, and evidence of continuing professional development are desirable.

A nurturing, patient, and resilient approach is essential, with a genuine commitment to supporting students both academically and emotionally. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, remain calm under pressure, uphold safeguarding responsibilities, and show a proactive commitment to promoting both academic success and student wellbeing..
