Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
Location: The Wenlock School, Dudley, West Midlands, DY1 3SB
Salary: £22,160.62 per annum (not pro‑rata)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday 08:15‑16:30 | Tuesday‑Friday 08:15‑15:45
Contract: Permanent, Term Time only
Start Date: February 2026

About the SchoolThe Wenlock School is a co‑educational day school for pupils aged 7‑18 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, autism, and associated learning differences. Opened in 2018, we are building an Outstanding provision – a school that transforms lives through creativity, care, and commitment.
About the RoleThe Learning Support Assistant will work specifically with individual pupils who are placed at the school, requiring 1:1 staff support. Pupils may experience a range of social, emotional, and learning challenges, including speech and sound disorders, delayed language understanding, concentration difficulties, challenging behaviour, and work avoidance. The role is predominantly educational but also includes supporting families, carers, and the wider community.
You will work closely with agencies such as Social Workers, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Communication Disorder Assessment Service, Early Intervention Team, and an Educational Psychologist.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare, safety and wellbeing of pupils
- Work in line with professional standards, statutory requirements and school policies
- Support the day‑to‑day organisation and administration of the school
- Take responsibility for agreed areas of work, reviewed annually through performance management
- Contribute positively to the school's improvement journey
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required
- Previous experience working in a SEND school or specialist setting
- Grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- A calm, consistent and nurturing approach
- A strong team player with excellent communication skills
