Youth Worker - Wokingham

Job Summary

Support Worker for young people with emotional, behavioural and social difficulties.
KS2, KS3 and KS4.

Fantastic route for an aspiring Psychologist, Therapist or for someone looking to work in the Criminal Justice system.

An alternative provision for children aged 8 to 16 in Wokingham are looking for a Youth Worker to support the social skills, emotional wellbeing and mental health of the students within their school. The school provides an alternative education for children who have social & emotional difficulties such as anxiety and school refusal due to developmental trauma and adverse childhood experiences, as well as specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia.

The Youth Worker will be working to build relationships with these young people and support them to make positive life choices using de‑escalation, positive reinforcement and restorative practice.

Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored education to children who often feel confused, have low self‑esteem and are disengaged from schooling.
  • Build supportive relationships and empower children to understand that ‘great minds think differently’.
  • Enable and empower children to gain confidence in themselves and progress their learning.
  • Support children’s social, emotional and mental health development.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Ideally a degree in a related field or experience working with young people.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and resilience in working with children requiring support for mental health challenges.
