Estimator – Subcontract Machining

Up to £45,000 + commission
An established engineering and manufacturing organisation based in the Woking area is seeking an Estimator – Subcontract Machining to join its Machine Shop team. This role plays a vital part in supporting subcontract machining and metal finishing activities, working closely with Purchasing, Production Control and Sales Order Processing.
The RoleReporting to the Machine Shop Manager, the Estimator will be responsible for estimating, quoting and securing subcontract machining work, supporting projects from initial enquiry through to production handover.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret customer requirements from CAD files, engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Prepare accurate and competitive quotations for subcontract machining and metal finishing
- Review costs and margins and make bid/no-bid decisions
- Support order entry onto the ERP system, ensuring all customer and BOM details are captured
- Liaise with internal teams to support delivery schedules and customer updates
- Provide feedback on work in progress and delivery performance

What We're Looking For- A competent engineer (apprenticeship trained, academically qualified or time-served)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in engineering, manufacturing, estimating or a related role
- Strong understanding of CNC machining and manufacturing processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD data
- Full-time, permanent position
- 40 hours per week
- Monday to Friday: 07:30 - 16:00 (30-minute lunch)
- Flexible start and finish times within core working hours
- Salary up to £45,000 per annum, dependent on experience
- Performance-based commission, typically around £5,000 per year
- 24 days holiday plus bank holidays
