As an AAIO, you will play a vital role in ensuring the Local Authority meets its statutory responsibilities around attendance, You will work closely with headteachers and senior school leaders to identify and support implementation of strategies that unblock barriers to attendance. You will provide guidance and support to schools around attendance and facilitate the sharing of best practise between schools of in Surrey.

You will have regular meetings with key contact in schools to identify pupils and cohorts of pupils at risk of poor attendance then agree targeted actions for those pupils or cohorts. You will support the development and the organisation of the attendance improvement networks.,

Responsibilities
  • Using data, identify key areas of concern in schools and work with that schools staff to implement strategies to improve school attendance.
  • Carry out Targeted Support Meetings in all Schools in Surrey.
  • Conduct Interviews Under Caution and produce statements and evidence packs for court.
  • Advise colleagues both within Surrey County Council and external partners on attendance guidance and regulations and how they can support families they are working with where attendance is a concern.
  • Carry out Children Missing Education enquiries.
  • Plan and facilitate sharing of best practice network meetings for an allocation of schools.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the relevant Legislation in relation to the statutory requirement for school attendance and DfE guidance.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Experience working with education settings.
  • Understanding of the education landscape.
  • Ability to challenge effectively.
  • Experience in working in collaboration with a range of internal and external services.
  • Willingness and ability to travel around the county to meet the demands of the role.
  • An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role.

This role has a starting salary of £41,585 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week.

We are excited to be hiring an Attendance, Advice, and Intervention Officer (AAIO) to join our fantastic Surrey Attendance Service. This role is based in the West team whose office base is in Victoria Gate, Woking. This role is both challenging and deeply rewarding, giving you the chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children, young people, and families across Surrey.

The Surrey Attendance Service is responsible for carrying out the Local authority's statutory responsibilities as outlined in the DfE "Working Together to Improve Schools Attendance Guidance" alongside other legislation. The service works with colleagues within the Education Lifelong Learning Directorate. Specifically, alongside colleagues in our Gypsy, Romany, Traveller support team, the courts team, SEND, Social Care, Children Not in School Services and schools, to promote the importance of school attendance and to support with strategies to improve the schools attendance of children and young people in Surrey.
