An exciting opportunity that has become available as an gang prevention worker to support the delivery of educational programmes for children in SEN schools. The role involves engaging pupils with additional needs in practical learning activities, and supporting inclusion in classroom and practical sessions.

Why This Role?

This is not a standard classroom support position. You will be working with secondary school aged pupils (11–16) who need a mentor, role model and trusted adult to guide them through difficult circumstances.

Many of these young people face challenges linked to:

  • Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs such as ADHD, trauma and anxiety

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with the planning of classes alongside the teacher for activities tailored to pupils with SEND.

Work one-to-one or with small groups to support understanding and participation in lessons.

Adapt resources and activities to meet individual learning needs and abilities.

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure activities are inclusive and accessible.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and promote a safe supportive learning environment.

Encourage participation in positive activities and alternatives to gang involvement.

Skills and Attributes:

Experience working with children with SEND or in educational settings.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt approaches to individual needs.

Understanding of inclusion, safeguarding, and child protection.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a school team.

Creativity in delivering practical, engaging educational activities.

Desirable

Qualifications:

Experience in education, childcare, or support roles within SEN settings

  • Training in SEND support or behaviour management is an advantage.

Professional qualifications in youth work, social work, community development, or a related field.

Training or certification in conflict resolution, mentoring, restorative practice, or behaviour management.

Knowledge of crime prevention, youth offending, or gang intervention programs.

First aid training or safeguarding-related certifications.
