Job Description & How to Apply Below
This company operates at the forefront of rail technology and geophysics, offering excellent development opportunities and broad exposure to cutting-edge systems. You’ll work within a dynamic team and be deployed as part of a supported group, ensuring help is always available when challenges arise.
You will prepare, configure, and test survey and sensing systems, support R&D testing and product development, run Factory Acceptance Testing, and install and commission systems on rail vehicles and platforms. You’ll troubleshoot both in the office and on site, debug software and occasionally hardware issues, configure bespoke software to support teams, and improve system reliability and usability for deployment.
The technology you’ll work with includes radar and sensor platforms, custom-built hardware and software, serial communications, and bespoke data-capture systems. The role is mostly office-based, with occasional UK site visits and infrequent longer trips, including limited international travel.
We’re looking for someone with a hands-on technical background, experience installing or supporting equipment on site, and comfort working across electronics, mechanical systems, and software. Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills, along with a practical mindset for diagnosing why systems aren’t behaving as expected, are essential. Suitable backgrounds include field engineers, electronics or systems technicians, theatre or stage technicians, and geophysics or data-collection professionals looking to be more inhouse R&D base.
Useful technical skills include basic knowledge of serial protocols, connecting and configuring multiple devices, signal awareness, fault-finding, identifying faulty cables or hardware issues, and using test equipment such as multimeters, basic oscilloscopes, and debugging software or system-level issues.
Requirements for this role:
Experience in troubleshooting electronic devices.
Confident debugging software systems.
Hands-on experience in fixing, installing and fault-finding.
Experience supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
