STOP! Come and support your local community by joining Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Silver End Primary School, Witham. Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations. We are looking for a punctual and reliable individual, who is approachable and enjoys engaging with the public.
We have 2 positions available from mid April 2026:
- 1 x covering Temple Lane Crossing
- 1 x covering Western Road Crossing
These positions are for approximately 7 hours 30 minutes per week and 6 hours 40 minutes per week respectively, with a holiday pay element included. You will need to be available to work during the 39 weeks of the academic year, working within school term time: 8:10-8:55am and 14:40-15:25pm (Temple Lane) or 8:10-8:50am and 14:40-15:20pm (Western Road), Monday to Friday.
Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.
Responsibilities- To have regard for the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility impaired people wishing to use the crossing point.
- Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
- Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site in order to identify any problems. Report problems and defects to supervisor.
- Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents and failure to stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
- Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and replacements requested when needed.
- Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensuring that the traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
