PATROL WORKER/LABORER
Division of Highways
2026 Hiring Range: $27.54 - $31.29 per hour

- Regular first shift work hours are Monday through Thursday from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- May be assigned to work second shift (3:30 PM to 12:00 midnight) from mid-November to mid-April, with a shift premium of $1.00

- Work hours are determined by the workload and weather and are subject to change
Winter Maintenance
- Snow and ice removal
- Shoveling bridge decks
- Anti-icing operations
- Sign placement and flagging for traffic control
- Concrete work and asphalt paving
- Tree trimming and removal
- Drainage work and culvert installation
- Pothole repair
- Gravel shoulder maintenance and repair
- Crack grinding and sealing
- Painting road markings
- Litter pickup, including removal of road hazards (animals, wood, metal, etc.)
- Summer maintenance responsibilities, including mowing with flail and batwing mowers
- Operating a loader in the winter, occasionally
- Performing other work as required or assigned
- Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures
- Mechanical skills
- Skill in basic computer usage, including email
- Skill in asphalt paving is a plus
- Ability to safely operate trucks and other equipment
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to recognize potential hazards on roadways
- Ability to endure severe weather conditions
- Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Safe driving record
- Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Classes B-C-D, at the time of application
- Within 90 days of hire, must be able to obtain a tanker endorsement
- May be required to obtain a Class A CDL with air brake and manual transmission endorsements

The position involves heavy physical demands, including occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force from carrying manhole covers and semi tires and rims. Will carry up to 10 pounds frequently.
