Camp Kitchen Assistant (Food Services)
YMCA Camp Icaghowan in Amery, WI is hiring for Summer Camp Kitchen Assistants to join us for the 2026 season! Our camp season runs June through August. The salary for this position starts at $15.00 hourly. The Kitchen Assistant will work short term 16+ hours/week (schedule TBD in alignment with candidate's availability prior to season-start).
- Assist in serving healthy and nutritious meals to camp participants and groups.
- Assist in documenting and reporting when inventory quantities are low in stockroom, freezer and cooler.
- Set tables, clear tables, wash dishes and perform other cleaning as directed.
- Maintain clean and safe kitchen work areas, stockroom, freezer, refrigerator, dining room, dish room and loading dock in accordance with State of Minnesota/ Wisconsin health regulations.
- Practice personal hygiene and cleanliness in handling food.
This position reports to the Kitchen Manager who reports to the Food Service Manager. This position may take work direction from the Cook. The incumbent interacts regularly with kitchen workers, campers, participants, volunteers, and staff.
QualificationsRequired:
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Minimum age of 14
- Incumbents aged 14 or 15 years old must possess a valid work permit if performing work in the state of WI.
Preferred:
- Prior experience working in food preparation
- Knowledge of kitchen operating procedures and food handling and storage
- Ability to lift, carry and push food carts up to 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to safely operate all necessary kitchen equipment and cleaning supplies. The incumbent utilizes equipment which can be potentially dangerous to include knives, ovens, meat slicers, mixers, broilers, and cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
