Overview
Opportunity: The Osthoff Resort is an award-winning AAA Four Diamond property located on the beautiful shores of Elkhart Lake. Renowned for our warm Midwest hospitality, we offer a variety of culinary experiences, including casual beach-side fare and elevated dining. The resort also has a 38,000 sq. ft. conference center that offers buffets or plated meals. We are seeking a talented and experienced Food & Beverage Director to lead the food and beverage operations of multiple outlets and facilitate memorable dining experiences that match the beauty and prestige of our resort.
In this hands-on position, you will oversee multiple outlets, ensuring efficiency in the operations of all areas, as well as maintaining high standards in productivity, consistency, and customer service to the level of AAA Four Diamond requirements.
The Food & Beverage Director position is a full-time position, which includes eligibility for our complete benefit package, including paid vacation time, health insurance, 401K plus company match, resort-wide discounts, and more!
Duties and Responsibilities- Display exceptional leadership by providing a positive work environment, counseling employees as appropriate, and demonstrating a dedicated and professional approach to management
- Encourage a culture of professionalism and world class guest service
- Create and implement training programs/SOP/Steps of Service/department policies
- Manage schedules and payroll for restaurant team leaders
- Increase overall knowledge and expertise for all team members by continual and consistent training
- Create wine/beer/cocktail program and food menus alongside outlet managers
- Price menu according to costs
- Evaluate specials and menus during slower season to reduce food costs
- Prepare and work within approved budget
- Develop profit benchmarks in all areas
- Work with Chef/kitchens to maintain costs
- Strategize and implement new ideas to help promote sales
- Build and fine-tune systems to enhance guests’ experience and create consistency
- Oversee inventory and ordering as necessary
- Review outlet maintenance schedules
- Report any equipment maintenance or replacement needs
- Ensure all food safety and sanitation protocols are strictly followed
- Create and oversee outlet cleaning schedules
- Create a working seasonal events calendar
- Coordinate with each area and those responsible to ensure understanding and success benchmarks
- Create internal programs to maintain team morale
- Use current resources without additional financial outlays to boost sales and customer count by building partnerships with local diners and businesses
- Build event partnerships
- Work closely with multiple resort departments to meet goals
- Build and execute programs to increase revenue and profit
- Work with Sales, Marketing, Banquets, Conference Services, Events, and Spa to create multiple special events per year
- Be available to fill in by managing, hosting, bussing, bartending, expediting, and serving as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of all outlets
- Attend weekly BEO meetings and other meetings as needed
- All other duties as assigned
- Education:
High School Diploma, higher education degree preferred - Minimum 5 years successful restaurant management (multiple outlets preferred)
- Experience with event planning a plus
- Culinary experience a plus
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Passion for hospitality and a commitment to creating guests for life
- Strong planning and organizational skills to run a streamlined operation
- Ability to analyze service and identify continuous improvements
- Excellent interpersonal skills for diplomatically handling team members and guests
- Able to build relationships with guests to encourage word-of-mouth business
- Ability to work under pressure and make decisions confidently
- Skilled trainer of service technique and customer satisfaction skills
- Knowledge of cuisine, wine, beer, and liquor
- Must have or be willing to obtain a food safety certification and bartending license
- Maintain positive can-do attitude, and inspire that trait in others
- Dependable, great work ethic, trustworthy, and credible in the workplace
- Delegates and coordinates teams well
