The Dean Lab in the Lyda Hill Department of Bioinformatics at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, is actively seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist who is excited to work at the interface of Tissue Clearing, Advanced Optical Probes, Cancer Biology, and Light-Sheet Microscopy. This Postdoctoral Scientist will collaboratively work as part of 5-year fully funded National Cancer Institute Cellular Biological Research Center with leaders in cancer biology (Sean Morrison, Jim Amatruda), computer vision (Gaudenz Danuser), and optical microscopy (Reto Fiolka and Kevin Dean).
Specifically, the goal is to understand the molecular and environmental determinants of patient-derived metastatic melanoma colonization events (Quintana et al., Nature. 2008, Piskounova et al., Nature. 2015, Tasdogan et al., Nature. 2020) using fully autonomous light-sheet microscopes that achieve the highest resolution in cleared tissue imaging (Chakraborty et al., Nat. Methods. 2019) and advanced computer vision routines (Driscoll et al.,
Nat. Methods. 2019).
A Ph.D. in a STEM-related field is mandatory, and expertise in one or more of the following areas is desirable: fluorescence microscopy, tissue clearing, spectral multiplexing, computer programming (Python, MATLAB, Linux), computer vision, cell biology, and cancer biology. More generally, a Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to design, organize, and conduct highly advanced experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures and, if necessary, design new protocols;
collect, prepare, and analyze research data; keep a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data; maintain computer databases of research data; tabulate and display data for presentations in research conferences and for manuscript preparation; use statistical software and approaches to analyze and present data; supervise other personnel in the laboratory to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency; participate in training of fellow, residents, students, and volunteer workers as needed;
and search pertinent scientific literature on a regular basis.
UT Southwestern Medical Center is a world-class and highly translational biomedical research institution with six Nobel laureates, 14 Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigators, and home to the Harald
C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. Currently, UT Southwestern medical Center has >$500M in research funding, and an operating budget of $3.7B.
