Overview
Job title:
Flitchwood/Rotary Relief. Reports to Team Leader. Hourly position with location to be determined by Alder needs and will fluctuate week to week. The role supports Flitchwood and the Rotary plant in Mellen, Wisconsin, and involves a variety of duties related to veneer piling and equipment operation.
- Piling veneer on proper piles, piling on grade lines, DC piling, etc.
- Lifting boards in the hole and clipping and crating for four slicers.
- Communicating to service when loads are filled to be pulled off the line.
- Knowledgeable of safe and proper piling techniques.
- Support and follow standardized work.
- Communicate with grader.
- Determine proper safety procedures (LOTO, JSA, REACH) needed to safely and efficiently complete tasks.
- Forklift operation.
- Physical ability to push/pull up to 80 lb and grip/carry up to 50 lb.
- Work mandatory overtime to ensure daily tasks are completed.
- This list is not exhaustive and duties may be amended by the Team Leader, VSM or Plant Manager.
- Follows 5S/Continuous Improvement and quality initiatives with understanding of basic production needs and initiatives.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED is required. Ability to read, write, and use basic arithmetic. On-the-job training provided; approximately 1 to 3 months to become proficient. - Knowledge of natural veneer defects, species, and mechanical defects; basic knowledge of the process and product use is beneficial.
- Skills:
Ability to read, understand, and follow standard operating instructions; apply basic grade specifications; efficiently pile veneer stacks; use mechanical lifts to adjust load height. - Reasoning:
Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. - Language:
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to communicate with others at all levels in both oral and written forms. - Mathematical:
Ability to perform basic math, read a tape measure.
- Work Environment:
Frequently exposed to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and extreme heat. Noise level is usually loud. - Personal Protective Equipment:
Safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, steel-toed boots, and other PPE as required by job duties and location. - Physical Demands:
Regularly standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing/pulling as part of duties.
