Job OverviewProvide quality system support to manufacturing operations by performing quality tests in the lab to ensure high quality products are shipped to customers. This function is also responsible for performing calibration tests on lab equipment to ensure it is functioning properly.
Job Duties- Act as a safety leader and put safety first in all responsibilities.
- Plan daily activities to coincide with production needs. Receive product samples from departments. Check job specification sheets and perform quality tests as specified. Refer to quality assurance procedures as needed. Confer with superiors and shift supervisors to determine work status, priorities and potential problems.
- Follow established testing procedures to operate a variety of lab testing devices. Set up and adjust machine controls to perform tests, record results and compare data to specifications or standards. Notify shift supervisor of test results. Apply color-coded inspection tags to rolls of product to show inspection results. Perform one or more tests as required by specification sheets. May divide test tasks or coordinate tests with another Lab Technician or Assistant.
- May troubleshoot lab equipment.
- Demonstrate attention to detail as required by customer specifications.
- Advise shift supervisor on quality assurance issues and procedures. May perform product inspection or tests on the shop floor, at machines, or in the warehouse. May discuss quality problems and offer suggestions to improve product quality. May perform testing equipment startup procedures at start of day or shutdown procedures at end of day.
- Prepare a quality assurance file on each job by collecting production order, roll label, specification sheet, sample and related data. Record test results. Generate and maintain SPC data and records. Operate computer to input data on jobs, specifications and test results. Maintain a file of production samples.
- May check and test incoming raw material. Perform routine tests to verify material against established specifications. Notify superiors of non-conforming material.
- May train or instruct others responsible for backup assignments. Prepare and submit time records according to procedure.
- Operate office equipment as needed. Observe company policies related to dress, attendance, safety, sanitation, and related practices. Perform a variety of special projects or related tasks as directed. Maintain records and files related to departmental work activities.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area. Follow safety precautions and wear required personal protective equipment. Follow procedures for proper handling, labeling, storage and use of chemicals.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Formal Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- HS diploma or equivalent/Technical experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviors
- Vision requirements including close, distance, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus for safe performance
- Must be able to distinguish color and pass a color vision test
- Regular attendance
- Frequent interaction with others
- Ability to work in a team-based environment, assist others, and lead by example with focus on safety, quality and productivity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally in a team environment
- Lean manufacturing experience desirable
- Good attention to detail for data analysis in the manufacturing process
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
