Description

Under the direction of the Department Manager, the Material Packer ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost, meeting company policies and procedures. The Material Packer will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Pack or download material per instructions.
  • Clean material and review for quality while packing or downloading.
  • Utilize technology to review job requirements, report production, and to produce labels or reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized workspace.
  • Perform all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Federal, State, and local standards and regulations.
  • Adhere to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding safety and standards of workplace behavior, in completing job duties and assignments.
General Purpose

The general purpose of the Material Packer is to prepare “ready to ship” material for shipping, per the customer requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Physical Demands:
    Physical Demands refers to the level and/or duration of physical exertion generally required to perform occupational tasks (sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing and pulling). The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Perform repetitive motion of fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders and upper body. On occasion the employee may be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.

    The employee must frequently lift up 10 to 25 pounds and rarely lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally the employee will be exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
