General Labor, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Location: Algoma
Overview
Wisconsin Public Service, a subsidiary of WEC Energy, is recruiting for a Student - Gas Field Work (Student Laborer - Operator Qualified) position at our Algoma, WI office. This is a full-time summer position beginning in May or June 2026, with Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–3:30 pm and a half-hour unpaid lunch during the summer months. Starting pay: $19.22 per hour.
Responsibilities- Perform operator qualification duties (e.g., meter maintenance, cathodic protection reading, gas leak surveys, atmospheric corrosion surveys, facilities inspection, meter painting, and miscellaneous duties such as cleaning, maintenance, and clerical functions) as assigned by the department.
- Work may be performed in corporate offices, district offices, power plants, service centers, warehouses, and other field locations.
- Specific duties (based on location & business need) may include:
- Meter Painting (Using Cathodic Protection Reading techniques per CFR Title 49 Part 199)
- Gas Leak Survey (check for gas leaks, document, and escalate appropriately)
- Facility Inspections (inspect meter sets for gas odor or damage, check for obstructions, and assess for settling or support problems)
- Atmospheric Corrosion Survey (identify and prevent atmospheric/pitting corrosion or loose paint)
- Outdoor Maintenance (yard maintenance, lawn mowing, painting, snow removal, vehicle/equipment/facility cleaning, basic landscaping, window washing, etc.)
- All other laborer duties as assigned (e.g., running equipment to field locations, flagging, errands)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High School diploma, GED, or HSED
- Enrolled as a full-time or part-time student pursuing a technical, associate, bachelor, or master degree
- A valid driver's license
End Date: 02/22/2026
Minimum Posting Range: $19.22;
Maximum Posting Range: $21.43. The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, including applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.
