Custodian

Overview

The Village of Fox Crossing is accepting applications for a full-time Custodian. The Custodian performs general custodial, janitorial, and light maintenance work at assigned Village facilities and related work as required. The work is performed under the direction of the Street Superintendent.

• Cleans the municipal complex which include daily, weekly, monthly semi-annual and annual tasks.
• Performs all tasks with safety as a priority and properly wears applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Maintains facility floors by mopping, waxing, scrubbing, sweeping, vacuuming shampooing carpeted areas.
• Dusts, cleans and sanitizes counters and other surface areas, and clean windows in offices and common areas.
• Cleans, disinfects and maintains restrooms and locker rooms, replenishes supplies.
• Collects trash and recyclable materials.
• Cleans and sanitizes the appliances, floors, counters, table and chairs in the cafeteria/break room.
• Orders and restocks supplies needed to perform cleaning and maintenance duties, monitors inventory and usage.
• Assists in maintaining building structures and mechanical equipment by checking and cleaning equipment daily to ensure proper and safe operation.
• Performs grounds maintenance to include lawn mowing, snow shoveling, salting parking lots and sidewalk areas, etc.
• Performs minor building repairs, plumbing, painting, replacing light bulbs, assembling and repairing furniture and other equipment as needed.
• Ensures HVAC filters are changed, and heating and cooling systems are operational.
• Assists in examining buildings for safety hazards, reports deficiencies to supervisor.
• Receives and responds to inquiries, and complaints from Village staff and the public.
• Communicates courteously and effectively with other Village employees, officials, and the public.

• High School Diploma or equivalent with one to two years of cleaning experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Knowledge of health and safety protocols
• Understanding of and practical knowledge of using cleaning chemicals, equipment, and other tools
• Time management
• Great attention to detail
• Must pass a pre-employment physical and background check.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s licenses with an acceptable driving record.
• Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is essential.
• Work schedule is normally Monday to Friday, 6:00a - 2:30p. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies (man-made or natural) to meet the business needs.
• Able to lift, push, pull 25-50 pounds.
