Frederick County Government is seeking an experienced and highly dependable IT Specialist to join our IT department. This role supports a dynamic, high-demand environment, providing technical support to County departments with a strong emphasis on responsiveness, accuracy, and confidentiality. The ideal candidate is resilient, detail-oriented, and confident in their technical expertise able to manage a high volume of helpdesk requests while clearly translating complex technical issues into practical, user-friendly solutions.

Core Hours
Monday - Friday
8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
As an IT Specialist, you will:
- Deliver Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support by diagnosing, resolving, or escalating hardware, software, connectivity, and application issues in a high-volume helpdesk environment.
- Configure, install, and maintain desktops, laptops, workstations, standardized images, software, and peripherals as part of the County’s IT Replacement Program.
- Troubleshoot wired and wireless network issues and perform advanced first-level assessments, coordinating with vendors and manufacturers as needed.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure, Application, and GIS teams on daily operations and project-based initiatives, while effectively managing multiple priorities.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the work order system, identify recurring issues or trends, and provide technical support for meetings, on-call rotations, and special assignments.
- 2+ years of IT support experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have held it for at least 2 years
- Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in simple, clear terms.
- Strong critical thinking and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to stay calm and solutions-focused in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to pass a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check and work an on-call rotation schedule from Friday to Friday.
