Summary
This position accurately applies ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis, including skills required in performing a variety of technical procedures, resulting in the highest quality diagnostic radiograph, with the least amount of radiation exposure to the patient. This position takes into consideration all specific age groups as well as known disease.
Responsibilities- Performs radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures as ordered by a physician utilizing accurate application of ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis and treatment of patients varying in age: infants, children, adults and geriatric.
- Positions patient and equipment appropriately to accurately demonstrate the area being examined, requiring extensive anatomic positioning skills.
- Provides appropriate radiation protection for patient and staff during radiation exposures according to prescribed safety standards.
- Adjusts technical factors to provide appropriate exposure by use of independent judgment, knowledge of human anatomy, effect of disease on the radiograph and the principles of radiation as well as the specific operation of all radiologic equipment within the department.
- Performs duties of an x-ray aide and front desk registrar as needed.
- Performs excellent patient care procedures and techniques to comply with My Michigan Health mission and values.
- Is responsible for the observance of radiation safety practices.
- Works collaboratively with other health team members and enhances working relationships.
- Demonstrates a positive, courteous, and helpful attitude to others.
- Maintains professional acumen through active association with professional organizations.
- Shows evidence of continuing education in radiography as necessary to remain current with profession.
- Attends in-service educational programs and departmental meetings.
- Consistently strives to exceed the customers expectations and promotes patient satisfaction.
- Assists radiologist as needed in performance of sterile procedures, i.e., biopsies, myelograms, etc.
- Including the preparation and administration of various forms of radiologic contrast media, medications, and catheterizations.
- Has knowledge to readily identify and treat allergic reactions to contrast media.
- Practices sterile technique.
- Performs surgical and portable radiographic procedures as assigned.
- Ability to recognize and report malfunction of radiographic equipment appropriately.

Associates Degree in Healthcare Related Field. Successful completion of an ARRT approved program in Radiologic Technology is required. One (1) year clinical experience is preferred. Knowledge of Radiology Information System (RIS) and HIS preferred.

Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures as evidenced by observation, documentation and peer feedback for the following:
Neonate/Infant, Toddler, Child, Adolescent, Adult and Later Adult. Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
